Join the team from Blackburn’s fabulous Making Rooms for a one-off workshop in the market. Come by the stand and type in your birthdate and ta-da, a pendant showing where the Earth and Moon were on the day you were born!
The Moon and planetary positions are calculated from extremely accurate real data from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory – quite literally generated for missions to the Moon, Mars, and other solar system bodies.
To produce these amazing personalised pendants, we analyse the NASA data using our very own Python computer code. This code will transform your date into a representation of the solar system. The Earth and Moon are shown in their unique alignment around The Sun.
To show the orbits, the Sun, Moon and Earth exactly to scale, we would need to produce extraordinarily huge pendants and still have the Earth and moon as microscopic dots, so there is a little bit of artistic license in the scaling to make them precise but also practical (and we think beautiful).
