A New Zealand dance company will travel to Heysham Library to host a free dance workshop in July.
Java Dance Company, based in Wellington, will travel to Heysham Library on Wednesday 13 July to hold the workshop from 10am until 4pm. The day is open to dancers of all abilities and is completely free of charge.
The workshop will be run by Java Dance’s artistic director Sacha Copland and will be a fun combination of dance, acting and voice and is open to anyone aged 14 or over.
Java Dance is an internationally touring dance theatre company, having performed all over New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. They are currently in the process of creating a new piece of work and are offering this workshop as part of their research.
Sacha will teach a basic dance sequence and work with the group to create patterns, movement and interaction with an emphasis on enjoyment and working together. There is no prior dance experience required and any skill level is welcome.
Although the workshop is free, places must be booked with library staff in Heysham either in person or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Anyone attending is asked to bring clothes they can move in, a packed lunch, water and a sense of humour!
This event has been organised by Spot On Lancashire as an addition to their spring season, taking professional arts events to rural venues and libraries across the county.
Speaking ahead of the workshop, Spot On’s Sue Robinson said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Java Dance back to Lancashire following their performances of ‘Back of the Bus’ in 2015. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone with an interest in dance to take part in a workshop run by an internationally renowned dancer, and it’s all absolutely free! We’re expecting this to be a popular event so we strongly advise booking your place as soon as possible.”
