Stunning puppetry in Lancashire libraries

A brand new show, based on a popular children’s book and featuring stunning puppetry, is on its way to Bacup and Ormskirk in April.

“Handa’s Hen”, which has been adapted from Eileen Browne’s book of the same name by Little Angel Theatre, will be performed at Bacup Library on Wednesday 6 April and Ormskirk Library on Thursday 7 April.

The show lasts 35 minutes and will be performed at 11am, 12.15pm and 2pm in Bacup with 11am and 2pm shows in Ormskirk.

All of the Bacup shows have already SOLD OUT but there are still tickets available for both the performances in Ormskirk. The show is suitable for ages 2-6 and their grown-ups, with tickets costing just £2 each and free for under 2s and they can be picked up directly from the library. When Handa and her friend Akeyo go looking for Grandma’s black hen Mondi, they find two fluttery butterflies round the hen house, three stripy mice under the grain store, four little lizards behind the pots…  But where is Mondi?

Based on the book by Eileen Browne, this beautiful and engaging show features 55 stunning puppets all created by hand. Join in with Handa and Akeyo as they sing and dance in search of Mondi, meeting a host of colourful animals and birds as they go.

“Handa’s Hen” forms part of Spot On Lancashire’s spring season of rural touring, taking professional arts events to village halls and libraries across the county.

Speaking ahead of the show, Spot On’s Sue Robinson said:

“This is a really lovely show for young children with an incredible number of visually beautiful puppets. The fact we’ve already sold out all the shows in Bacup prove how good this show is and we’re expecting tickets to sell quickly in Ormskirk too.”

The show has been subsidised by Big Imaginations, a region-wide network of venues and promoters dedicated to bringing brilliant children’s theatre to the North West.
