A new show for children all based around the many uses of dough will be coming to three Lancashire venues in April.
“Dough!”, from Olivia Furber and Creative Scene, will be performed at Chorley Library on Wednesday 5 April at 2pm. From there it will visit Burnley Library on Thursday 6 April at 2.30pm, followed by a performance at Arkholme Village Hall on Friday 7 April at 2pm. Tickets for the show, which is suitable for children aged 3-8 and their grown ups, can be booked directly from each venue.
“Dough!” explores how life can be filled with colour and beauty when we step outside the beige world we know.
Frankie is in a mess, a very doughy mess. Unable to resolve the chaos in her kitchen she has to make a journey to an unfamiliar place to get help. Everything tastes, smells and feels different there.
There she discovers Azad, a baker who shows her how fantastic things can be done with ordinary stuff. And what could be more ordinary than the dough that makes our everyday staples. Familiar to all cultures, dough creates the loaves, naan bread, croissants, dumplings and chapattis that remind us of home.
“Dough!” forms part of Spot On Lancashire’s spring season of touring, taking professional arts events to village halls and libraries across the county.
Speaking ahead of the performances, Creative Scene’s Vicky Holliday said:
“The play follows hapless chefs Azad and Frankie who are in a real mess, with more dough than they know what to do with. Children under eight and their grown ups too will delight in the chaos and the beauty as Azad and Frankie try to make the food.”
“We really enjoy bringing the show to libraries and village halls as the audience are able to get much closer to the action and there’s even opportunity for them to stay and play at then end.”
The Lancashire shows have been subsidised by Big Imaginations, a region-wide group of venues and promoters dedicated to bringing brilliant children’s theatre to the north west.
Tickets for the Chorley and Burnley Library shows can be booked directly from library staff or by emailing either firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. To book for the Arkholme performance, please call 07875 000817.
