Introducing children to Shakespeare

A fun and fast-paced theatre show, introducing children to Shakespeare’s stories, is coming to Lancaster in April.

“Bardolph’s Box” from Up The Road Theatre and Unity Theatre will travel to Lancaster Library on Saturday 2 April at 2pm.

The show is a fun, fast-paced, high-quality introduction to Shakespeare’s stories for children aged 8-12 and their families. The show will include Shakespeare’s language, puppets, live music and dancing like it’s 1598! Join Bardolph for Shakespeare’s anniversary – 400 years since the playwright died.

Name: Bardolph. Age: I forget…Favourite things: Being cheeky. Having fun. Meeting new people. Helping others. Join me, cheeky chappy Bardolph, on my rollercoaster ride through Shakespeare’s stories. Everyone needs a helping hand at times and I’m just the boy for the job! Who will we meet? Where will we go? Can you get my pals out of a pickle? One thing’s for sure, we’ll have a whole lot of fun along the way!

Speaking ahead of the play’s tour, Unity Theatre’s artistic director, Matthew Linley said:

“We’re all really excited to be working alongside Up The Road Theatre to help little Bardolph come into the world – or rather into a library, school, arts venue or community hall near you.

Developing Bardolph’s Box is very much part of our ongoing commitment to making great work for under 12s and their families.

“Bardolph’s Box” forms part of Spot On Lancashire’s spring season of touring that programmes professional arts events in rural venues and libraries across the county.

Tickets for the show are priced at £4 for adults and £2 for children with a group ticket for £8 (2 adults, 2 children) and they can be purchased directly from the library. For more information call 0300 123 6703.
