Don’t miss the last post!

A brand new piece of theatre, set on a bright red post van, that celebrates the lost art of letter writing heads to Whalley Library in June.

“The Last Post”, from Kilter Theatre will head to Whalley Library on Thursday 2 June for two performances at 11am and 2.30pm. Tickets for the show are limited with only 18 available per performance and they are priced at £8 and £5 concessions. They can be bought directly from staff at Whalley Library. For more information call 0300 123 6703.

Audiences are invited to step on board Mobile Sorting Office (MSO) 451 and be transported to a world where snail mail reigns supreme. The pillar-box red van is brimming with vintage paraphernalia from a much-travelled life, with a thousand items of real mail.

Meet Verity, the irrepressible heiress of an international pen-pal agency and Red, a redundant Post-Master and witness the unwrapping of a curious love story accompanied by “harmony-drenched, melancholy-tinged” live music, provided by Tomaz (who arrived one day in a jiffy bag).

After the show, stay for a tipple of sherry with Great Aunt Sofya and perhaps write that letter you’ve been meaning to send before popping it into our real (and functioning!) post box for delivery. Or if you’re stuck for inspiration you can pick up a postcard from our ‘Friends for Pens’ pin-board and write to a real life recipient who is waiting for your letter.

Speaking ahead of the show, Kilter Theatre director, Oliver Langdon said:

“Our Mobile Theatre has been hosting our performance of The Last Post and recruiting letter-writers for our Penpalling Agency, ‘Friends for Pens’, all over the south of England since 2012. We are really excited to come to the north west and share the work, making connections with audiences and imaginative people who appreciate that good things, in small packages, come to those who wait!

The show forms part of Spot On Lancashire’s spring season of touring, taking professional arts events to rural venues and libraries across the county.
